Stop Fever Blisters Before They Start!

November 28th, 2012

Our team is excited to announce a new tool in our offices that is intended to make work on soft tissue more accurate and the best possible quality. The soft tissue laser is called a Portable Diode Laser, and it has great benefits for patients!

Cold sores, caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), can be passed from person to person by saliva (either directly, or by drinking from the same glass or cup) or by skin contact. After the first infection, the virus remains dormant in the nerves of your face. In some people, the virus becomes active from time to time, when this happens, a fever blister appears.

An outbreak can be caused by mental and emotional stress, as well as illness, trauma to the lips or sun exposure. Sometimes there’s no know reason. If you’re a sufferer of these fever blisters, you should pay special attention to how our team and this new tool can benefit you!

The Portable Diode Laser can be put on “non-cutting” mode and within 2-3 90 second passes, without anesthesia, we can suppress the expression of herpes simplex cold sores! What that means, is when you feel a lesion coming on — the familiar tingling and numbness — you should call the office right away! By visiting our office, we can prevent the often ugly and sore blister from coming to the surface!

Even better news! It’s been reported that recurrence of herpes complex cold sores occurs much less frequently after treatment!

We’re extremely excited to share this exciting news and technology development with our patients! If you suffer from herpes simplex cold sores, let our office know- we’d love to help!

When you have an orthodontic emergency, we are here for you

December 26th, 2012

Millions of patients undergoing orthodontic treatment will not be smiling this holiday season, and not because they didn’t get the gift they wanted. These are people whose teeth and/or braces fall victim to the hard, chewy, gummy or sticky holiday treats.

We know orthodontic emergencies are never convenient nor timely. If you are a patient of record, we are committed to your dental health and are available to you. As a general rule, you should call our office when you experience severe pain or when you have a painful appliance problem that you can’t take care of yourself. We will be able to schedule an appointment to resolve the problem.

You might be surprised to learn that you may be able to temporarily solve many problems yourself until you schedule an appointment. When working with your appliances, you need to know the names of the parts of your appliances so you are able to identify what part is broken or out of place. After alleviating your discomfort, it is very important that you still call our office as soon as possible to schedule a time to repair the problem. Allowing your appliance to remain damaged for an extended period of time may result in disruptions in your treatment plan. If you have a orthodontic emergency after regular office hours, please give us a call and follow the emergency prompts to contact our team! We hope you’re having a great holiday season!

We’d love if you shared with us all the things you love about the holidays. Stay warm, and don’t forget to stay away from those sweets!
